We’re glad you’re here!
Whether you’re a content creator or just passionate about change, we’re here to help you turn words into actions and followers into voters. Real change isn’t just possible - it’s happening, and you can be part of it.
Straight to the Point
To be more impactful, we must first make sense of what’s going on around us.
Pop the Bubble
When a system is about to fall apart, it fights harder to survive. This is called an extinction bubble. Here in Missouri, and across the country, Republicans are clinging to their power by using their strongest weapons: overwhelm and despair.
They are passing extreme laws to control women and people of color. They are spreading messages of fear and violence to try to convince us that “father STILL knows best.” Just last week, a woman in Idaho was dragged out of a town hall meeting for simply speaking up! Republicans are trying to roll back our hard-fought rights for their own gain, but we won’t let that happen.
Not So Shocking
The Overton Window is similar to George Lackoff’s “framing”. What we see inside the window, or frame, are the range of ideas and views that most people see as normal and acceptable. Outside the window are ideas that are extreme and unacceptable to most people.
What’s inside the window can shift over time. This change in thinking can ultimately affect policy. The Missouri GOP (and Republicans across the country) are constantly pushing their extreme ideas, and we become comfortable with them and accept them as normal.
Seismic Shifts
Positive examples of shifting the window: in 2008, public opinion was against same-sex marriage, but in 2015 - as the window shifted - SCOTUS ruled that same-sex couples have the right to marry.
Historically, Americans found it acceptable for adult men to marry girls as young as 12. Now, most of us are horrified by this, and laws are changing the legal age of marriage to 18.
There are negative examples as well. One shift we’re seeing is the idea that transgender people shouldn’t even exist. Another dangerous shift is the belief that diversity, equity, and inclusion is bad for white people. Legislation is being proposed, and even passed, to stamp out both.
Pass It On
For the next 2 years, our goal is to drag the window away from Republican positions that benefit very few people and put the issues that uplift the most Missourians in the middle of the window.
We can apply this to the messaging in the content we create and share.
Be the Change: Each of us can make a difference by sharing our ideas and lifting up voices on social media. When we share what we stand for, others are inspired by our courage and will follow our example.
Control the Narrative: Sharing the negative, as well as complaining about it, gives it more power. Let’s talk less about what we are against, and instead…
Focus on the Future We Deserve: Promote policies that make our lives better and shape the future we want to see: one rooted in equality, fairness, and progress for all. Together, we can shift the window.
Action Item
Missourians are already calling SB22 the “Let Politicians Lie Act”. Call your State Representative and tell them to vote NO on SB 22. Find your State legislator here.
